The One Point Approach

Day 1 | GM Sam F.S. Chin Annual Intensive | Fishkill, NY

The path of Zhong Xin Dao (the Martial Art of Awareness) is defined by the One Point Approach. This is the Neutral Approach—a center-based methodology that applies first to the unification of the self, and subsequently to unification with an opponent. It is the foundational principle for all movement and mental clarity.

The Five Mechanisms and Physical Alignment

The internal energy field is cultivated through the coordination of two primary sets of centers:

  • Absorb and Project (Vertical Axis): This establishes alignment with gravity. The axis runs from the crown (C7) through the spine to the centers of the hips, legs, and feet.

  • Condense and Expand (Mass): This involves the relationship between the Dan Tien (front) and Ming Men (back). While these appear as two points, they represent a single mass. The alignment is the center line that separates Yin and Yang (front/back, left/right), while the mass separates Up and Down.

The Spinning Force of Coordination

Neutral energy manifests as a Spinning Force. This "Primary Energy" acts as a pivot point that remains stationary while movement occurs around it in six directions and three dimensions.

  • The Hardware: The training of the bones, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Movement begins with the rotation of the skeleton to capture the opponent’s solid structure.

  • The Software: The application of circles, spiraling, and coiling within the movement itself.

Every movement must be born from the center and return to it. This creates a "Force-Field" where stability is maintained through grinding and wrapping, ensuring the link between points is never broken.
