Reflections on Chicago: Presence, Service, and Sacred Relics
On July 25th and 26th, 2026, as part of the annual McDonald Chicago 46th Annual Chinatown Summer Fair, the International Buddhism Friendship Association (IBFA) in Chicago hosted a public exhibition of sacred Buddha relics, inviting members of the I Liq Chuan / Zhong Xin Dao community to serve as official security throughout the event.

Beyond their historical significance, these sacred relics carry a timeless message for practitioners. They embody the purified qualities of Ethical Conduct, Concentration, Wisdom, and Liberation—qualities cultivated through a lifetime of dedicated practice and devotion. As awareness practitioners in I Liq Chuan / Zhong Xin Dao, the relics stand as a living standard for our own path. They remind us of our daily aim: to maintain presence and clarity in every moment, to recognize reality as it is, and to express that understanding through compassionate action.
Putting these principles into practice, our volunteers stepped up to guard the relics in Chicago over the weekend. Standing for 5 to 7 hours under the summer heat, the team demonstrated quiet discipline, inner stability, and steady commitment throughout their service.

Providing security for sacred relics isn't about tension or being defensive—it’s about maintaining a calm, grounded, and stable presence to keep the relics safe while allowing pilgrims to pay their respects in peace. It was a direct application of our internal training in real life, enriched by Dharma teachings from Master Jiru and witnessing the seamless collaboration and lifelong brotherhood between Master Jiru and Grandmaster Sam Chin.
